A cascading waterfall with a natural bathing pool and a tunnel running under the falls.
Thudugala Ella is a cascade of about 8 m in Thudugala village (Dodangoda division, Kalutara District), on the Matugama side of the district. It has become a popular bathing place: a natural stream pool surrounded by ferns and trees. A tunnel runs underneath the waterfall and comes out at one side.
The falls lie inside a rubber estate. At Ellagawa Junction (look for the rubber plantation signboard) take the left road over a small bridge, then walk along the river through the estate.
Good to know
At the junction take the left road. The right turn only leads to an artificial bathing area with no view of the falls.
Expect a short walk along the river through the estate.
A nearby forest reserve is home to local and migratory birds.
Nearby oil-palm cultivation has affected the water flow, so check recent conditions before you go.
